This shawl is illustrated in the style of splint paintings with a Russian game dance song "Like on the sea". The song was recorded by Miliy Balakirev in Nizhny Novgorod province. Household and fairy-tale plots are fancifully combined into a single composition. The image of the feathers of a slain bird flying in the wind connects two worlds - real and mythological.
Lubok is a type of graphic art. Lubok prints are inexpensive pictures with captions, intended for mass distribution. An artistic feature of lubok graphics is the boldness in choosing techniques — up to grotesque and deliberate deformation of the depicted subject. Initially, the main genre of lubok prints was religious. Only later did lubok pictures begin to illustrate Russian fairy tales, epics, historical tales, and songs. Many works of modern popular culture originate from the lubki, which were a newspaper, an icon, and a primer for ordinary citizens and rural residents.
About the designer
