Description

The design was created under the impression of Georgian  pardagi with figurative imagery.

Pardagi – are Georgian flat-woven rugs that were once hung on the wall above the bed, spread over the mattress of a divan, or hung in a doorway.  Pardagi were never laid on the floor: floors were wooden and there was no need for it.  They were woven on simple looms, the patterns held in the weaver's memory. For dyeing the threads, natural dyes were preferred (walnut shells and membranes, camomile, onion skins, nettle, madder roots and many, many others) – the colours came out muted and lasting.

Most pardagi feature geometric ornaments, more rarely primitive depictions of animals, people and birds, landscapes and portraits.

It is these pardagi that inspired us to create the «Wedding» scarf. The imagery of the rugs is very close to the art of Niko Pirosmani. Around a hundred such pardagi, of particular value and craftsmanship, are kept in the Pirosmani house-museum in the village of Mirzaani. They were gathered in villages near Kiziki and in Mirzaani itself. They captivate with their naivety, simplicity and inner strength, always present in genuine works of folk art.
